What image comes to your mind when you hear the phrase "an excellent speaker"? Some might imagine a spokesperson who delivers speeches with self-confidence behind a podium. Others might imagine a person who walks around during a speech engaging the audience. In today's meeting, we enjoyed both styles.
The first speaker talked about an exchange with his teenage daughter behind a podium. It was his first challenge to incorporate vocal variety and body language, but he successfully delivered his speech with effective gestures and colorful vocal variety. At the end of his speech, he shouted raising his fist confidently because his intention to connect with her worked successfully.

On the other hand, the second and third speakers delivered their speeches using the whole stage effectively without a podium. The second speaker humorously talked about the copyright of the most popular mouse character in the world. He successfully engaged the audience by making effective gestures with his whole body. The third speaker talked about an important thing to become a good English speaker. When asking a very important question, he pressed the audience for an answer leaning forward toward them. This was effective in getting the audience to take the question seriously.
What I found interesting was that everybody who followed including impromptu speech speakers and evaluators at the venue delivered their speeches without the podium. Although it was the first experience for members who joined after the COVID-19 outbreak, everyone tried hard to use their bodies and the stage.
While many people might feel awkward delivering a speech without the podium, good use of your whole body and the stage will make your delivery more effective. Why don't you learn and practice the skill with us? You will be an inspiring speaker like Steve Jobs.
